How to get the Best DLA Customer Service

Disability living allowance, DLA, is a benefit given to disabled people in the UK. The benefit is tax free. It is given to people who have mobility and care costs because of their disability. The benefit therefore is dependent on the nature of the disability. The disability living allowance has undergone some amendments and changes and is now referred to as the personal independence payment, PIP. DLA is therefore only claimed by children under the age of 16 years and people over the age of 65 years at the time when the changes were being effected.

Who is eligible for DLA?

DLA is now only available for children under the age of 16 years. If you are an adult then you will need to apply for PIP instead but you will continue to receive the DLA contact number is you were receiving and you are above 65 years of age. If you have been receiving DLA, you will continue to receive the benefits until the department for work Pensions asks you in writing to apply for PIP. If you have not received such communication then you need not do anything. If you are 65 or older and are not receiving DLA or PIP then you are not eligible.

The other eligibility criterion for DLA is dependent on the disability that you have. You are eligible if you have a disability that makes it hard for you to move around or if you cannot take care of yourself. Depending on your disability then you can get either the care or the mobility component. This is based entirely on the needs of your disability. You are also eligible if you have no legs, if you are 100% blind and 80% deaf, if you need care when walking outdoors and if you are severely mentally handicapped.

DLA components you may receive

Depending on the needs of your disability you could get either the care or the mobility components. The care component is divided into three; the lower, middle and highest levels. The mobility component is divided into the lower and higher levels. In the care component you get £21.80, £55.10 and £82.30 respectively in the three levels. In the mobility component you get £21.80 or £57.45 respectively in the lower and higher levels. For children the DLA can go up to £139.45 per month. DLA is paid for every four weeks and the payments are done to a single bank account of your choice.

When do you need to call the DLA contact number?

It is important that you reach the DLA office whenever you have a query about any of their services.
